Executive Team


Charlie Mamrak – Chief Executive Officer

Charlie Mamrak joined SeraCare as CEO when the Chicago-based private equity firm, Linden Capital Partners, acquired the company in 2012. Before assuming his current role, Mr. Mamrak was an operating partner at Linden where he focused on building the firm’s investment portfolio in life sciences and diagnostics. Prior to Linden, he was CEO of TestPak and then PML MicroBiologicals. Mr. Mamrak has also held general management posts at Fisher Scientific and Sigma-Aldrich in life science research and drug discovery. He has experience progressing from bench level to laboratory and operations management at contract research laboratories including DuPont and Corning. Mr. Mamrak studied biomedical engineering at Pennsylvania State University and earned his BS in biology and chemistry from Moravian College.


Russell Garlick, PhD – Chief Scientific Officer

Russell Garlick joined SeraCare as CSO in 2012 to focus on expanding the company’s technologies, R&D organization, and product development pipeline. Throughout his career he has worked on the development, regulatory approval, and launch of a variety of technologies and assays, including an HIV/AIDS patient management program, molecular genomics technologies, and HIV drug discovery systems. Prior to joining SeraCare, Dr. Garlick was co-founder of Life Sciences Group and served as CEO and CTO of Protein Forest, Inc. He has also held executive R&D positions at PerkinElmer Life Sciences and DuPont NEN Life Sciences. Dr. Garlick earned both his PhD and MS in biomedical sciences, medicinal chemistry from the Barnett Institute at Northeastern University, and his BS in biology from the University of Massachusetts Lowell.


Ann McCormick – Chief Operations Officer

Ann McCormick has been SeraCare's COO since 2012. Before joining SeraCare, she co-founded and managed SeraMetrix Corporation where she was involved in developing and manufacturing protein biomarkers for oncology and autoimmune applications. Prior to that role, Ms. McCormick held numerous manufacturing and operational leadership positions over her 12 years with Invitrogen (now Thermo Fisher Scientific). As VP of manufacturing operations, she managed that company’s global production sites, including GMP-compliant facilities. Before Invitrogen, Ms. McCormick was a senior scientist with Beckman where she helped develop recombinant proteins for HIV assays. She earned her MS in microbiology from Indiana State University and her BS in biology from Christopher Newport College.


Paul McEwan – Chief Financial Officer

Paul McEwan joined SeraCare in June of 2015. He has over 25 years of financial experience, predominantly in the life sciences industry. Prior to joining SeraCare, Mr. McEwan served as CFO of Microline Surgical, Inc. His career includes executive management positions at NeuroTherm, Inc., Optos, and BBX, Ltd. Mr. McEwan earned his MBA from the Edinburgh Business School, University of Herriot Watt in Edinburgh, UK and his HNC in accounting from Dundee University in Dundee, UK. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants in the UK and the Institute of Management Accountants in the US.


Bharathi Anekella, PhD – Vice President of Product Development and Technical Operations

Bharathi Anekella joined SeraCare in 2000 and has served in her current role since 2014. She has over 25 years of product development experience in infectious disease, oncology, genetic disease, and recombinant virus. Prior to joining SeraCare, Dr. Anekella was a lead scientist at DNA Technologies where she developed molecular tests. She earned her PhD in microbiology from Osmania University in Hyderabad, India and received a Fogarty Visiting Fellowship to continue her postdoctoral research in the Laboratory of Molecular Virology at the National Cancer Institute. Dr. Anekella has authored and co-authored multiple articles published in peer-reviewed journals.


Trevor W. Brown – Vice President of Precision Medicine

Trevor Brown joined SeraCare in 2014 after holding leadership positions in global diagnostics strategy at Luminex Molecular Diagnostics, where he established and led their marketing organization. Mr. Brown has rich commercial experience spanning portfolio planning, M&A due diligence, and development and execution of channel strategies to access the growing precision medicine and laboratory-developed testing markets. He previously held several commercial leadership roles at BD Biosciences after working in technical instrument sales at Bio-Rad Laboratories. Mr. Brown earned his MS in cell biology from the University of Alberta and his BS with honors in biochemistry and molecular biology from McMaster University.


Joe Kozma – Vice President of IVD Products

Joe Kozma came to SeraCare in 2012 from Millipore, where he was vice president of sales at their BioProcess and Technologies division. Mr. Kozma has vast experience working with leading IVD manufacturers developed throughout his career in the life science and diagnostic industries. Prior to Millipore, he was vice president of global sales for the Celliance division of Serologicals, where he also served as vice president of strategic market development and vice president of corporate sales. Before that, Mr. Kozma was executive vice president of Intergen Company, which he co-founded. He earned his BS in education from Ball State University.
